My Little Star

I could watch you all day.

Be with you all day.
Let your tiny fingers hold one of mine all day.

I wish I could save your baby scent in jars and build a stash to last for a lifetime.
I wish I could catch all your smiles and frowns and yawns and milk-drunk funny faces.
I wish I could stop the time every time you cuddle up to me, as your small body fits so nicely in my chest.

Please forgive me little star as I sometimes still struggle to get into position to breastfeed you.
I’m sorry for when I don’t change your diaper quickly enough.
I’m sorry that sometimes I take too long to pick you up when you cry.

But thank you my dearest little one for making me feel good about being your mom.
Thank you for the many times you stop crying right away when I hold you close and breastfeed you in my arms.
Thank you for wanting to sleep on my chest and placing your palm over my heart.
Thank you for looking at me the way you do.
Thank you for making me want to be the best mom for you.
